Japanese Inspired Pattern Cutting
Want to learn how to use a basic block to create more interesting garments? This is creative pattern cutting with a slightly oriental influence.
There are really only two basic processes involved in flat pattern cutting - dart manipulation and 'cut and spread'. Using these two techniques you will have fun experimenting and creating something unusual but wearable.
This is a very relaxed but creative way to 'design as you go' to come up with something no one else will be wearing!
You will need to have had some experience of pattern cutting or creating your own patterns before. If you have your own set of blocks that's wonderful you can bring those along, or you can use one of our blocks in a basic size and work with that to create your own shapes and styles.
In this class you'll learn:
- How to manipulate darts to create different shapes
- How to use cut and spread to create different shapes
- How to assess and evaluate what works as a garment shape for you.
- How to translate alterations and adjustment on a creative shape into a workable pattern
This class includes expert tuition form Jules Fallon, use of our Janome sewing machines and overlockers, thread etc, pattern paper, calico, tools and equipment as well as plenty of tea, coffee and cake!
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
All tools and equipment will be provided but if you have your own please feel free to bring them along.
Tea, coffee and cake will help the creative juices to flow but please bring some lunch with you as this is an all day workshop.
