The Florence Dress

The Florence Dress is a relaxed fit, easy to wear, midi-length dress perfect for cooler weather.    It can be worn day to night, the ultimate transitional garment for your wardrobe. 

Version 1: 

Bound placket with flat collar, three quarter length darted sleeves and gathered skirt with cut away pockets.

Version 2: 

Round neck with bias binding finish and keyhole back neck opening with long gathered sleeves and a gathered skirt with cut away pockets.

Version 1: 4 x buttons (Misses) | 5x buttons (Curvy)| Interfacing

Version 2: 1x button | ready-made bias binding (if not making your own) |  1/4" elastic

 

Suitable fabrics:

Version 1: 

Use a more mid-weight fabric for this style so the darts in the sleeve hold better, this type of fabric will also lend itself for the placket construction.

Version 2: 

A light-midweight fabric.

Viscose | Viscose Linen | Rayon | Cotton Lawn | Double Gauze | Linen | Printed Cotton


What you will learn on The Florence Dress Workshop

Although our patterns are easy to make, we know it's nice to have a helping hand.
On this workshop you will have expert guidance on...

  • Measuring/pattern alterations.
  • Cutting out your pattern.
  • Attaching the facing.
  • Sewing a gathered skirt.
  • How to sew in seam pockets.
  • How to sew buttons and button holes.
  • Finishing your garment.

 

By the end of the day, you will be leaving with a fabulously made Florence dress that fits you perfectly and the confidence to create it again from the comfort of your own home!



What you'll need

All you will need for the workshop is the fabric, buttons, and bias binding required to create your Florence dress with - If you can't find a fabric you like at home, why not purchase fabric from the Sew Me Something store on the day?

We have an onsite cafe - The Makers' Kitchen - with a selection of delicious, light rustic food, as well as award-winning Monsoon Estates coffee and scrumptious cakes. Or you can bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
