Intro to Wet Felting Workshop

An introduction to Wet Felting; Learn to make a flat image/art work and a 3D Bowl
Spend a day learning the ancient craft of felt making with Penny Dixon, a textile artist who has been felting for over 18 years.  This workshop is split into two sections enabling you to first master the skills and then develop them further by creating a second more advanced project while the knowledge is fresh in your mind!
In this first half of the class you will learn how to handle unspun wool and identify a selection of different fibres.  During the session you will learn how to draft and lay the wool and use the fibres to create a small picture or abstract piece.
The wet felting process involves agitation in warm soapy water and you will learn a  variety of techniques to form a beautiful strong piece of felted fabric which you will take home with you.
Then after lunch you will learn how to make a beautiful decorative felt bowl which follows a similar process but you will also learn the correct time to remove the resist and how turn your work into a three dimensional piece. This will become a bowl or plant pot holder which you will be able to take home with you.  When dry, you will be given inspiration on how to embellish or add embroidery to your lovely artwork.
