Intro to Pottery Workshop

About this workshop:

If you love the idea of doing Pottery but have been a bit nervous about where to start, then we can help you!  The Intro to Pottery Workshop is aimed at beginners who want to learn the basics of hand making and slab work, with a gentle introduction into throwing on a Potters Wheel. 

Working in a small group, everyone will start with slab work and hand forming the clay and then groups of two people at a time will learn to use the potters wheel until everyone in the group has had a go.

You will create a pot which will need to be left with us to enable time for drying and the firing process to be completed, and then you can come and collect your beautiful creation two weeks later - date of collection to be confirmed by the tutor

About your Tutor:

Your tutor Selby Dickinson was first introduced to the world of ceramics when he undertook an apprenticeship in a studio pottery on the Wirral.  Having learnt all about production and the running of a busy studio pottery, he furthered his passion for ceramics and studied for a degree in Multi Disciplinary Design at Stoke On Trent. Following graduation, he opened his first studio in Cambridge, and during this time began to teach pottery to local community groups, schools and adult education.

Selby's work is all made on the wheel and he works extensively with coloured slips and engobes to produce his colour range. He would describe his work as contemporary, functional ware whilst keeping to the many disciplines that he first learnt as an apprentice.  Selby's great passion is passing on his skills and knowledge through teaching.
