Intro to Quilting Workshop - Simple Cushion

Join us for a whole day to learn how to make a fabulous quilted cushion!
You will be able to learn at your own pace with all the help and support you need to create your own 20 inch cushion.
Using rulers, cutting mats and rotary cutters, you will learn how to accurately measure and cut your fabric into shapes and piece it together to create a beautiful patchwork design.
You will learn how to match the points and then how to quilt it using our Janome quilting machines and accessories. We will then show you how to make up the envelope back cushion.
You will be taken you through a multitude of patchwork and quilting skills, including sewing accurate quarter inch seams, making half square triangles - a traditional quilting block and piecing these together to form a cushion top, making a 'quilt sandwich' using wadding and backing, and simple quilting
All sewing equipment will be provided but you will need to bring your own fabric, batting and a 20 inch pad to make the cushion

- You are welcome to make use of the scrap box fabrics that we have but it is a good idea to bring plenty with you too, especially if you are going for a particular colour scheme
What you need to bring -
- Your top fabric. We recommend a selection of patterned fabrics - fat quarters would be ideal as would scraps that measure at least 5 and a half inches square
- Half a meter of backing fabric
- Half a meter of Batting/Wadding
- A 20inch cushion Pad
- Any sewing equipment from home if you prefer to use your own (Not sewing machines please)
- Thread to match your fabric - we have lots of thread available to use but can't guarantee they will exactly the right colour for your chosen fabric
